The Biblical Foundation
Life is a precious gift from our Creator, and understanding its significance can profoundly affect how you spend your time here on earth. In the Book of Genesis, we learn that God created humanity in His image (Genesis 1:27), elevating us above all other life forms. But it was God’s breath that truly set us apart, transforming us from mere bodies into living souls (Genesis 2:7). God frequently reminds us that the soul lives on after life is over. His divine act not only granted us life but also endowed us with a remarkable gift: the ability to choose. Unlike puppets on strings, we possess the freedom to make choices that reflect our values and beliefs, particularly in our relationship with God. Those choices will live on after we give up our human life in this world. This study will explore the sanctity of life and the profound responsibilities that come with the gift of free will. Together, we will uncover the deep meaning and purpose woven into our existence.

Understanding Your Purpose
We begin to understand the reasons behind our existence by first understanding the Psalm above. It is an affirmation of God’s personal involvement in the creation of everyone. In Jeremiah 1:5, God’s prophet tells us that “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” This verse reveals God’s foreknowledge and purpose for each person even before birth. God’s intentional creation of each person is the foundation for humanity’s purpose. We are not random beings, but uniquely designed to live meaningful lives. Our purpose is to:
- Reflect God’s image and character
- Embrace our unique gifts and calling
- Make moral choices that honor God
- Enter into a relationship with Him
- Accept responsibility for our decisions and their consequences
Now that you know you are here for a special purpose, accept that this world is your unique stage to fulfill it. While challenges like sin exist, they cannot overshadow the potential God has placed within you. God’s love, expressed through Jesus, removes obstacles to a deep, everlasting relationship with Him. By embracing Jesus, you gain guidance through life’s trials and access to a vibrant, eternal existence.
You are not here by accident either; God intentionally created you for His special purpose. This world is where you are called to live out the goals you and God have set for your life. Take time to reflect on your remarkable journey and the exciting possibilities that await you.
This life is your opportunity to optimize your time, talents, and treasures, and to prepare for the next life, eternal life. The choices you make now, how you use your gifts, how you respond to God’s invitation, and how you serve others, will shape your destiny and impact you for eternity.
The Door
(Revelation 3:20) – “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
God’s invitation to believe and respond to Him is central to your purpose. You are created for a relationship with God, and your purpose is fulfilled as you choose to accept His love and walk with Him.
Practical Steps
To optimize your life for eternity, begin by reflecting on your identity and creation. Meditate on scriptures like Genesis 1:27 and Psalm 139:13–14, which remind you of your unique value and the character of God reflected in you. Embrace prayer as a vital tool for seeking God’s guidance, asking for wisdom to understand your purpose, and trusting in His intimate knowledge of you, as Jeremiah 1:5 highlights.
Dive into Scripture to gain insights into your calling and choices, focusing on passages that address purpose and free will, such as Deuteronomy 30:19 and John 3:16. When free will is irresponsible in God’s eyes, it is nothing more than sin! Assess your gifts and passions, recognizing how they can be used to serve others while honoring God. Engage actively within faith communities for support and encouragement, taking part in service opportunities that align with your values. Ultimately, make choices that reflect your faith and accept the responsibility that comes with grace and freedom.
Above all, be open to a deeper relationship with God, welcoming His love and guidance into your life. Respond positively to His invitations and remain receptive to new directions He may present, thereby ensuring your life aligns with the eternal purpose for which you were created.
