James 1:5-6 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Commentary:

This should be a comforting assurance. When we need wisdom, we all do at one time or another, all we need to do is ask. That is an important point, however, and that is to make the first step ourselves through prayer. We are given a warning, however, and that is to be strong in faith. God does not appear to be concerned with our request as much as He is with the depth of our belief.
